Thank you for using the WhatToPack.com website or mobile website, including related applications (collectively, the “Site”), which are provided by Smarter Travel Media LLC (“What To Pack”). The terms “we”, “us”, “our” and “What To Pack” refer collectively to Smarter Travel Media LLC and/or our affiliates and subsidiaries. The term “you” refers to the customer visiting the Site and/or contributing content on this Site.
What To Pack is committed to safeguarding your privacy. We do not rent or sell our customer database or newsletter subscriber list to third parties. We do not share customer information in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement.
What To Pack’s registration form requires members to provide basic contact and demographic information. We receive and store any information you enter on our Site or give us in any other way. This includes information that can easily identify you (“personal information”), including your first and last name, telephone number, postal and email addresses, user name and password. If What To Pack offers or facilitates any transactional services, this may also include billing information (such as your credit card number, cardholder name, and card expiration date). We may also request information about your travel plans, style, and preferences, including meal requests, seat selection, frequent flyer/hotel/car rental program information, and flight class, luggage, and ticketing options. You can choose not to provide information to us, but in general some information about you is required in order for you to receive relevant offerings from TripAdvisor and What To Pack and its partners and enjoy other benefits of being a registered member. We use or may use your contact information (such as email address) from the registration form to send you newsletters and occasional information about our services and partners, inform you if you are the potential winner of a contest or promotion, personalize your experience with What To Pack, or investigate cases of suspected fraud or abuse. You may opt out of receiving future communications; see the Opting Out of Further Communications section below.
In order to customize your experience with our email newsletters we may receive a confirmation when you open email from What To Pack if your computer supports such capabilities. Clicking on a link in a What To Pack newsletter may also be tracked on a per-user basis to allow us to present content which closely matches your interests. Demographic and profile data (such as state, zip code, age, or gender) may be used to customize your experience at our site or in our email newsletters, showing you content and advertising that may best suit your needs. This information is shared with advertisers and other third parties on an aggregate or non-identifiable basis only.
If you enter What To Pack via a reward or incentive program, What To Pack may share your email address with the program through which you entered What To Pack to ensure you are credited with your incentive.
If you access third party services, such as social media services, through WhatToPack.com or before coming to WhatToPack.com, we may collect information such as your user name, password, and other information made available to us through those services in order to improve and personalize your use of What To Pack.
In order to better communicate with registered users about their registration status, What To Pack may acquire information about users from third-party sources, including but not limited to a user’s mailing address. The information collected will only be shared, if at all, on an aggregate basis only with third parties.
Information About Others

As another example, if you access third party services, such as social media services, through our Site or before coming to our Site, we may collect information such as your user name, password, and other information made available to us through those services. We will work with our existing partners and potential future partners to improve and personalize your use of our Site in accordance with the practices outlined in this section and Policy.

For example, we will collect session data, including your IP address, Web browser software, and referring website. We also may collect information about your online activity, such as content viewed, pages visited, and searches and/or reservations facilitated or made. One of our goals in collecting this automatic information is to help us understand the interests and preferences of our users and customize your user experience.
What To Pack uses IP addresses to analyze trends, administer our website, and help diagnose problems with our servers. IP addresses are also used to gather broad demographic information and to prevent, investigate, and take actions in the case of suspected fraud or abuse.

To do this, we may collect information about your travel-related searches and other site activities, such as whether you are looking for airline flights or hotels, and use this information to serve you with ads on our sites or elsewhere online that match your apparent interests. These third parties include (1) business partners, who collect information when you view or interact with one of their advertisements on our sites, and (2) advertising networks, who collect information about your interests when you view or interact with one of the advertisements they place on many different websites on the Internet. The information gathered by these third parties is used to make predictions about your characteristics, interests or preferences and to display advertisements on our sites and across the Internet tailored to your apparent interests.
Response to Do Not Track signals
Your web browser may transmit a “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) signal to What To Pack and other websites. Because of differences in web browsers’ default settings and the manner in which browsers incorporate DNT signals, it is sometimes unclear to site operators whether site visitors have selected the DNT setting themselves, or whether they are aware that they have a choice in determining the setting. What To Pack does not currently respond to DNT signals. Once the Internet industry has settled on standards related to this issue and What To Pack recognizes such standards, we may reevaluate this approach.

While no website can guarantee security, we have implemented appropriate administrative, technical and physical security procedures to help protect the personal information you provide to us. For example, only authorized employees are permitted to access personal information, and they only may do so for permitted business functions. In addition, we use encryption when transmitting your personal information between your system and ours, and between our system and those of the parties with whom we share sensitive information, and we employ firewalls and intrusion detection systems to help prevent unauthorized persons from gaining access to your information.
Occasionally information may be provided to What To Pack fraudulently or by an individual unauthorized to provide such information. What To Pack may use all information it collects for reasonable investigation and prosecution of suspected fraud and/or abuse. What To Pack may provide all information it collects to third parties as necessary to comply with law enforcement requests or other legal requirements.
What To Pack does not ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted to us over the Internet.
